Install SharePoint 2016 - Hardware and Software requirements

This article lists the official [1] hardware and software requirements for SharePoint 2016. Please note that the following numbers are probably going to change.

Hardware Requirements

SQL Server

Please note that these numbers are based on SharePoint 2013 [2] since there's no official information in TechNet for SharePoint 2016. Hardware requirements for SQL Server in SharePoint 2016 are probably a little bit higher.

SQL Server Hardware requirements

SharePoint Server Hardware requirements - Single Server

SharePoint Server Hardware requirements - 3-tier farm

Software Requirements

SQL Server

SharePoint 2016 needs one of the following version of SQL Server:

• SQL Server 2014 SP1, 64 bit

Application Server + Web Server

SharePoint 2016 needs one of the following versions of Windows Server:

• Windows Server 2012 R2 Standard or Datacenter, 64 bit
